A Fine Chippendale Pole Screen with Tapestry and Claw & Ball Feet, c.1780

Scroll down for 9 more photos

This is a particularly large and commanding pole screen with full carved embellishments: claw and ball feet, carved knees, and if that weren’t enough, the pole itself has a carved vasiform urn below a reeded column.  The finial appears original as well.

The screen itself has magnificently carved edgework, and relates to other English pieces of the time.  For a related example see our Chippendale card table with serpentine apron (see item sw01346).  Another similarly carved English table in the Norman Adams Collection is illustrated 18th Century English Furniture, Christopher Claxton Stevens, et al.  (See scan below).  The tapestry is probably 19th century, and there are no breaks or alterations.

Height: 62 1/2 in.  Width (of frame): 23 3/4 in.  Depth (of tripod): 18 1/2 in.
