A Monumental Gilt Pier Mirror with Reverse Painting, with American Eagle, Probably American, c.1800

This is an important eglomise pier mirror with giltwood frame.  The large scale and dramatic proportions of this mirror are enhanced by a fine eglomise glass panel in the frieze depicting an American Eagle clutching a banner reading  "E Pluribus Unum" and flanking oak leaf rosettes.

What makes this mirror extra special is its original reverse painted glass with the American eagle.  (The plate is restored.)  Considering its grand size, it probably came out of a fabulous mansion or public institution during the Federal period, 1800-1820.

Height: 76 in.  Width: 43 in.  Depth: 4 in.
