A Fine Carved George II Mahogany Tray Top Tea Table with Candle Slides, and Carved Eagle Heads, Ireland, circa 1750, Provenance: Alfred Bullard
Of special interest are the carved eagle heads which evolve out of the acanthus carving on each leg. The tray top has a very nice patination, as does the rest of the mahogany (see details).
The mahogany is very fine and dense. The square paw feet are quintessential Irish. This tea table is as good as it gets and was handled by one of the major dealers in fine English furniture.
Below are two other examples of Irish tea tables, and one can see our table fits within this school of cabinetmaking, which has produced probably the finest 18th century "English" furniture. It was the best, for the best!
