This mirror is in extremely fine condition, retaining all its original parts. The phoenix bird is beautifully carved and rarer than the eagle which is generally seen on this form. This example has all of the flourishes one expects of a high styled piece. Note the scrolled swan neck pediment with the foliate carving. It's all there. Also, the carved embellishments running along the edges of this mirror are all intact and beautifully developed. The mirror is original, as is the backboard. In Albert Sack's categorization this is recognized a "best" example, (see scan from the Fine Points of Furniture below) The mahogany retains an old historic surface, and retains its original gilt.
It's simply the best, with no excuses, and a treasure.
