This is the best, most highly developed form of the colonial wing chair produced in Boston. A mate to it is at Winterthur (see scanned image below). This chair makes a bold statement with its highly desirable form, including shaped wings, and scrolled arms. They are neither heavy nor cumbersome; they flow from the crest of the back, through the sides on down. Above the legs, the corner or platform of the seat is not square, but rounded: a and highly desired feature. This chair is the best of the best, and came out of a pioneer dealer’s estate sale (Jerry Blum, purchased from John Walton)...he knew what to live with!
