A Carved Chippendale/George II Tilt top Silver Table, with Pierced Serpentine Gallery, England, c.1780

These tilt top tables with pierced galleries are often called silver tables, as this would accommodate a tea service with a protective edge.   The top is composed of a beautiful piece of mahogany with a wonderful patina with age shrinkage and a beautifully executed gallery on rarely seen serpentine sides with canted edges.  All is supported on a traditional birdcage so the top can be rotated.   The column is fluted above a carved urn.

Sotheby's recently sold another English tilting silver table with tray gallery and strikingly similar design, (please see the comparative image of this below).

The legs have beautifully carved acanthus leafage above claw and ball feet.  This is a lovely and refined table that is the best of the form and in excellent condition with no breaks or alterations.

Height: 37 1/2 in. Width: 25 3/4 in.  Depth: 18 1/2 in.
