This lowboy has a very large overhang, which is a most desirable feature for this form, and the corners are beautifully pinched and molded.    The entire piece, including the top, has striped walnut with beautiful graining and warm color that is the most valued attribute of these walnut forms.    The wood is first growth and with the tombstone drawer, it is somewhat earlier.  The legs are beautifully modeled and delicate in nature.

The two rear legs have old cracks along the vertical grain, which have been carefully reglued and can only be seen upon close visual inspection.   This often happens to rear legs when these pieces are pushed hard against a wall.    The brasses are authentic copies from England, cast in the actual molds of the period. 

This lowboy retains an old, probably original, finish has been overlaid over time with shellac and wax.  It is a standout, and its color draws one’s attention, as the amber glow of the walnut is magnificent.
