An Exceptional Inlaid Figured Mahogany Federal/Hepplewhite Secretary, Boston, Seymour School, c.1805-10

This secretary has Gothic Arch doors with an interesting central glass door above a prospect door opening to four drawers.  This is quite rare, and offers the benefit of the full interior often found in slant lids desks, plus a bookcase above, all in a casepiece of pleasing size.  The glass stands out in this piece, as it is all original, and has a good, wavy appeal.  There is much attention to detail with a very interesting corner bracket which is contiguous with the apron.  The striped mahogany of this secretary is truly magnificent; the sides, which often are of plainer wood, and the side profile is quite attractive.

This piece is in impeccable condition, with no previous breaks or alterations.  The color has a pleasing warm, amber glow. The brasses are all original, as are the finials.  This was handled previously by David Dunton; we believe he advertised this piece in Antiques magazine, but have not yet found that ad.
