Tiger maple beds that are complete and of the period are hard to come by. This example has good sized posts with satisfying turnings at the top and bottom of each post. It’s neither bulky nor thin; the proportions are excellent and whereas many of these has plain rear posts, these posts all match. The headboard is pine, in probably its original surface, and usually not designed to be visible. This bed has no breaks, repairs or alterations with the exception of the fitting of sturdy steel cross members allowing for a modern boxspring and providing, and adding additional support to the bed, which involved filling the holes along all rails that were there for attachment to bed cords.
