A George III Mahogany Open Lattice Armchair, England, c.1780

These chairs are quite rare and are sometimes constructed in the Chinese taste with an icicle design configuration.  These chairs are very rare because few have survived.  This chair is very solid and structurally on a scale to make it substantial; it’s a nice sized armchair.   Many of these forms were mass produced and are cheaply constructed of inferior mahogany.   This is a rare period chair in wonderful condition.  It has a “historic surface” which has been waxed for quite some time.
