A Fine Classical Mahogany Pedestal Dining Room Table, Attributed to William Fisk, Boston, c.1820

Conceptually, this dining room table breaks down into two drop leaf tables, which together with its original insert comprise one large attractive table. The wood is highly figured mahogany of the best quality with an elegant molded edge. Also, this table has drawers at each end, something seldom seen. The saber legs are supported by a turned column, all of solid, dense mahogany.
This is one of the finest classical mahogany pedestal tables we have owned. A related example is illustrated in Stuart Feld’s Boston in the Age of Neoclassicism (fig.8) also showing the insert, which is a very rarely seen element in any classical dining table. It is clearly the best of the best.
