An Important Patriotic Carved Mahogany Classical Bed, with Elaborate Eagle, Standing on a Globe with Cornstalk Columns, c.1830/40
This bed was probably made for a governmental institution, possibly one of the bedrooms in a governor’s mansion. The eagle sits on a well defined globe with the American shield on the bottom half of the globe. Also notable are the extremely well defined columns with what appears to be cornstalk finials. The tester is original. It is a tour de force and absolutely one of the best of this period. This bed obviously accommodated a person of diplomatic importance.
