An Outstanding Chippendale Tiger Maple Chest with Original Brasses, New England, c.1790

Scroll down for 6 more photos

This tiger maple chest of small size (36 in. wide) has dramatic tiger maple drawer fronts with deep amber color that shows warmth that only occurs through many years.  It has an old refinish and original brasses with a rarely seen nautical motif.

Note the beautifully shaped bracket feet, which give the chest a beautiful lift.   This chest retains its original blocking, backboards, etc.  all in pristine condition.  Generally, these chests have been taken apart, parts replaced, etc. … This chest is an untouched example that obviously was cared for through the years.   Note the top has many old scar marks, which have been overlaid with finish many years ago.

It’s all one could want in a country chest of tiger maple, which has always been the American satinwood: a most sought after wood.

Height: 36 in.  Width: 37 1/2 in. Case Width: 36 in.  Depth: 18 1/2 in.
