A Set of 6 Painted and Decorated Side Chairs, Lancaster County, PA, mid 19th century

Scroll down for 8 more photos

This painted set has its original paint and has no breaks or alterations.   It was carefully used, as the wear marks here and there show a degree of charm developed through the years.   These chairs are fairly comfortable with a back that gently reclines, and the seats are shaped to contour to the body.  Sets of lyre form chairs are quite rare, and of especial interest to us, as collectors of that form.  Please find below a scanned image of a 2006 cover of Antiques Magazine, which highlighted a related lyre-form chair back, accompanied by a discussion of Federal period vernacular chairs, by Nancy Goyne Evans.

Through its life, this has been a well-loved set.

Height: 32 1/2 in. Seat Height: 17 1/2 in. Width: 16 in.  Depth: 15 in.
