The provenance of this piece is the Connecticut Historical Society, Mrs. Houghtan Buckeley, and is one of those pieces that, no doubt, was long retained by a single family, as many of these were brought over from England in Colonial times, because these early high style chairs were not, as yet, made in America.

Nevertheless, this chair is a cornucopia of design starting from the top with magnificent finials and turnings.   Note the stretchers are all turned, and are often not.   This chair is one of the best of its kind.

We have recaned the bottom seat and there are no major replacements or alterations.
