A Very Fine Federal Carved Mahogany Worktable, attributed to William Hook, Salem, MA, c.1810

Scroll down for 7 more photos

This is one of the most developed work tables of its type.   The mahogany on top is beautifully striped, as is the rest of this piece.   The Hook attribution comes from the beaded molding around the top, which is typical of his work.   The brasses appear original, as are beautiful ivory eschuteons, in a form with a drop we have never seen.

Of special interest is the double carving, i.e. acanthus below the apron.   Most of these work tables are only carved at the ends of the apron (see attached related worktable and note how this one has the additional carving and its original brass casters).

This worktable is the best of the best in the Salem worktable category.

Height: 28 1/2 in.  Depth: 16 in.  Width 20 1/4 in.
