This table attracted me with its beautiful form,
which is very clean and precise, and its elegant cross-banding, all of which is
original. Note the close up image of the flipped
down top that shows the shrinkage and aging of the banding which is often
replaced in its entirety. This table
reads and is all untouched, repair-wise. The banding surrounds a magnificent most interesting mahogany surface
that to me is like an oil painting by a contemporary artist.
Also of note is the scooped out endings of the reeded leg
(shown in the detailed photos). This shows the level of
finish and refinement in the work. The
casters have large original wheels and the lift top mechanism makes this table
very convenient for storage against the wall or use for seating when open.
The breakfast table form is very useful, because, having four
legs and not three as in the smaller tripod tables, giving it stability while not
having a number of legs, just a single pedestal, making seating flexible and
comfortable.
