A Magnificent Queen Anne (early Chippendale) Gilt Mirror with Swan’s Neck Pediment and Candle Holders and Original Beveled Glass, England, c.1750

This is one of the great gilt mirrors and is in superb original condition, including the candleholders, beveled glass, backboard, etc. Without being overly large, this mirror is a standout in any room. The gold is beautifully preserved and the carving on the Swan’s neck pediment, rosettes, finial, etc. are as fine as it gets. This is a true connoisseur’s piece, and is the best of the best.

Dating from prior examples (including a related pair handled by Ronald Phillips), these mirrors were produced between 1740 & 60 and are categorized as either late Queen Anne or early Chippendale. Also of note is the oxidization of the mirror, which is beautiful to look at. For me, the surface and stylization of a mirror of this quality is almost like a painting.
