An Inlaid Hepplewhite Cherry Bowfront Chest, Connecticut River Valley, c.1800/10, provenance, Margaret Reardon, Stonington, CT

This chest is an outstanding example of Connecticut exuberance and makes a dramatic statement in any room. Note the magnificent drop pendant. They don't come any better in the world of inlaid furniture. The feet also make an outstanding statement by its outwardly curved design, which has stood the test of time, as they were structurally well, thought out, given the angle. See the images showing the underside of the construction, et al. It is a very clean piece. The pateras on each drawer with line inlay is also a feature on the best casepieces of that period.

Margaret Reardon only handled the best of the best, and it's not surprising to us to see this piece as one she has handled. It's the best.
