A Mahogany Chippendale 6-leg Claw and Ball Drop Leaf Dining Table, New York, 1760-80

Six-legged dining tables are very desirable and relatively rare. They offer an obviously greater stability than the four-legged form and cost a good deal more.
The mahogany is beautifully figured. There are no repairs or alterations, and it has a fine, old polished surface. Interestingly, it seems that only New York made these extra-leg models. Other six-legged dining room tables are illustrated in Lockwood's Colonial Furniture, fig.719, Levy's Gallery Catalog VI, p.108 (both shown below).
This is a strong, beautifully sculpted table of good size with no joined boards and cabriole legs that are well-developed. It is one of the best of its kind.
Also note the images with the top off, showing the clear indication of the originality of the top to the base, et al.
