This is a most interesting corner chair of good-sized proportions. For starters, look at the image showing the chair from above. Note the beautifully formed arms and medial support brace. Obviously, this is the work of a master. Also, notice the nice old surface. The rush seat is probably original, and it is interesting to note how the support for the seat frame is built on the flat, giving it strength from downward pressure when one sits. This was obviously thought out, and indeed works. The arm supports are nicely turned, and the medial braces with the hearts, et al are beautifully shaped to a wavy medial strip. This is quite unusual, and makes a lovely statement. The legs have a bead at their edge and they're beautifully pinned together with no restorations or repairs, whatsoever.

This chair was originally purchased from Hyman "Hymie" Grossman, who was a legendary dealer on Charles St. in Boston, a contemporary of Israel Sack and others.
