This is a dense tea table of the very finest island mahogany, which has been bleached into a golden glow through the years. It has rarely found drawers at its end, which add great appeal to its desirability and usefulness. The top has a dishtop created by scooping out a solid board of mahogany...and what a fabulous piece of mahogany it is!  Please view our detailed pictures.  Note the beautiful striping that was chosen for the top and, as importantly, the mahogany used throughout the rest of the piece...on sides, drawers, and legs. They’re all of the same tree. Also, note the fine mahogany drawer sides with precisely cut dovetails. This piece certainly shows the English influence that found its way into the work of the Townsend’s and Goddard’s of Newport.

Although a quite restrained piece, the kneeblock development is subtle as this is not a piece about carving, but of the fabric of the wood...and yet enough is done to connote: “this is a piece of high quality”.
