A Rare Pennsylvania Walnut William & Mary Turned Candlestand, c.1730

This is a seldom seen form and this example is a fine example of its design style. For a related candlestand, see below for a scan from Worldly Goods, Jack L. Lindsey.

Of interest, is that this candlestand is also a dishtop, and, while shrinkage has occurred, producing a more ovular width than length, it has remained remarkably level with a slight undulation in the wood serving as a banner of age. Of note is that all surfaces are of a consistent, mellow aged walnut.

Obviously, this was a well-kept piece. Many of these tables do not have their original tops, and instead have replacements, a factor always worked into the price. This is as fine an example condition-wise as is ever available.

Height: 25 1/2 in. Diameter: 12 in.
