This is a very practical sized table with a desirable dishtop. The mahogany is very beautifully figured. Using highly figured woods like this in the top is explanation for the very slight curvature of the top as these woods often have a life of their own. For most antiquarians, this adds to the charm. See details for the wood figure. The column is of a baluster form with a number of ring turnings and the feet have classic Boston "rat's paw" claw and ball design.
It retains its beautiful large metal spider with its claw and ball feet and dish top. This was a top-of-the-line table, whose original purchaser had to pay as extras above and beyond. The mahogany is of deep heavy Santo Domingo wood quality.
