A Mahogany Dishtop Kettle Stand with Stop-Fluted Column, possibly Newport, c.1760-80

We are led to believe this kettle stand could possibly be Newport, as the stop-fluting motif is a Newport trademark.  Nevertheless, it could be English, because we really have no secondary woods to analyze.   The mahogany is dense and this is quite a heavy little piece.  The wear is commensurate with its age.   The kettle stand form is quite functional alongside an easy chair and is quite rare, as not many have survived intact.  This piece is all original and retains an old surface.
