A Mahogany Chippendale Straight Front Bureau on Tall Bracket Feet, New England, c.1780

This bureau is composed of exceptionally beautiful solid boards of highly figured mahogany, and that's the essence of this beautiful Chippendale period. Small chests were made of everything from poplar to cherry, mahogany, birch, etc. But, the most expensive were those made of imported Santo Domingo and/or Cuban mahogany. This is one of those chests, with its original side pulls, and beautifully sculptured mahogany bracket feet.
