Carved Mahogany Lyre Card Table, Philadelphia, c1810, Haines/Connelly School
This is a beautiful example of the Philadelphia card table, with fully carved lyre and carved acanthus leaves. Note the long, elegant sweep to the legs which are paneled on the sides and top. The top of this table is composed of a beautifully figured mahogany with a stylized concave apron that provides a very slim presentation.
A related lyre card table exhibited at Winterthur Museum is illustrated in American Furniture: The Federal Period 1788-1825, Charles F Montgomery (see scan).
