A Fine Set of Five Large Side/dining Room Chairs, Irish, c.1780
These chairs are among the finest Chippendale side chairs available. These seats, beyond being a carved masterpiece, are fully commodious seats with the added embellishment of a serpentine shaped seat rail, further enhanced with brass tacks.
If you study the detailed view of the back splat with a high resolution device, you will see the intricacy of the carving that is created out of the solid block of mahogany. For those who appreciate surface, look again at where the hand has used the piece. All rests on square variegated reeded feet with original carved corner blocks. Also of note are the stretchers as they are beautifully designed and developed, and what one would want in a fully balanced chair of the best.
These chairs are masterpieces of the best order, all conserved and reupholstered using new brass nails.
We pair these five chairs with another beautifully developed straight leg armchair (see item sw02123). Though they are different, all are of the same quality. The armchair is very strong and they work beautifully together. We can sell each separately.
