A Rare Chippendale Mahogany Bow-Front Press Cabinet, New England, Probably Boston, dated April 24th, c.1802

This is a seldom found form, in fact, the only one we have owned. The lower two doors open similar to a linen press revealing three original pull-out shelves. Above is a single drawer with its original elegant brass pulls. The entire case sits on desireable tall bracket feet. This piece is quite functional as a flatscreen TV can easily go above it, whereas many decorate with linen presses to hide the large tube TV.
The mahogany is a deep, dense, figured rich red-brown color with solid mahogany top and sides, etc. It is in superb original condition, which has been French polished and brought up to the way it would have looked when it was made. And in this regard, please note the writing we have found on the piece indicating the date of April 24th, 1802. Below that, we can make out the words "made at"…and possibly the word "Island" after two other words. An image of this element is included below.
Judging from its condition and wear, this piece was obviously a cherished chest.
