A Classical Tiger Maple Fire Screen on Curule Legs, Philadelphia, c. 1825

This fire screen has an undisturbed gilt face and column mounts, all of which rest on curule supports in the Greek Style.  The screen also has its first elegant square casters with small wheels.

A very similar fire screen appears before an elaborate marble chimneypiece in an early 19th century library room illustrated in Authentic Decor, by Peter Thornton.  This is most likely a somewhat earlier English-made version of this design.

Height: 42 in. Width: 25 1/2 in.
