This is a small, rather simple work table with astragal ends, and a history in several notable collections.  It was originally part of the famous Garvan Collection exhibited and sold at the Anderson Galleries in New York in 1931 and the provenance then was from the collection of L.G. Meyers at the American Art Association in 1921 (see "Number 371" below).   The Meyers collection was an exceptional collection of the best Americana.

We have owned this for almost 30 years, acquired from Israel Sack, (see below for a copy of this invoice).   Further, an almost identical piece is illustrated in American Furniture: the Federal Period, fig.423 (also shown below below). 

Although rather simple compared to another in our collection (sw01167), the small size, with its very delicate legs, make this a most attractive casepiece with a solid history, with no repairs or alterations.   It retains an early surface that has been waxed over the years, and the brasses, of the period.
