An Impressive Federal Girandole Convex Mirror with Dolphins and Sea Serpent, New York, c.1805-1815

Provenance: Ginsberg & Levy

This convex mirror is made of gilded pine. It is surmounted by a seahorse on a Rocky Mount ornament, which rests on carved leafage. Below this, is the mirror’s circular, reed-molded, gilt frame. The mirror is additionally embellished with gilded applied ball ornaments and is flanked by a pair of well-developed dolphin. The mirror is set on a base of carved leafage and from which four candle arms emerge. All gilded surfaces are original.
