A Carved Mahogany Sheraton Settee, Salem, c. 1800-1805 attributed to Samuel McIntire

Sofas in this small grouping are all somewhat different and yet display the same carved motifs in different combinations. Of the group, the closest to ours is one illustrated in Levy with the same central carved crest. A much simpler form, without any crest and turned legs is illustrated in Sack, vol. VI, and another even more elaborate is illustrated in Lockwood. It is in its original condition, and is a very serviceable deep sofa. We show it in an open upholstered manner, without the thick seating and /or back cushion this sofa would have, to evidence its very clean condition w/ no breaks et al.
