A Mahogany and Tiger Maple Octagonal Sheraton Sewing Table, Salem, MA, c.1800 attributed to Nehemiah Adams

This sewing table has the classical Nehemiah Adams leg, see attached example from Israel Sack's inventory.  Notice that Sack's example has square canted corners; ours has canted corners that are slightly rounded and much rarer.  The nice thing about this delicate table is that it retains its original tiger maple facing on the drawer fronts and even the original lions' head pulls.  This table shows an old surface, which has been waxed over the years.  The bottom drawer is a slide that pulls out to which one can attach a cloth sewing basket.  We haven’t done so, as many prefer not to go to additional expense.   We prefer it both ways, depending on the piece.

It is in fine condition and would be a treasure in anyone's collection of early coastal federal furniture.

Height: 29 3/4 in.   Depth: 15 3/4 in.  Width: 20 in.
