This is a gutsy example of the very best of the classical work being done in New York. Note the vigorously carved acanthus leafage above the paw feet that turn in an uplifting of the leafage carving at the top, also, the two carved columns and the stretcher joining the two. The carving on the stretcher is reminiscent of work we have seen from the Phyfe workshop in this design. The upper case is fully developed with its original lift-up writing tablet, etc.
