A Queen Anne Mahogany Fire Screen, Salem, c.1760-90

Scroll down for 7 more photos

Few fire screens of solid mahogany have survived.  A closely related screen is exhibited in the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, and another example is illustrated by the Israel Sack Collection (shown below).  This table has the traditional urn and folding candle shelf all above its pad feet.

Note the beautiful figure in the solid mahogany oval screen.  Here, the best wood was saved for the viewing.   The finial appears original.

Height: 53 in.  Depth/Width: 18 in.
