This sideboard is a tour de force of vibrant flame birch contrasted against deep mahogany and offset with beautiful inlay similar in type to those used by the renowned Seymours in Boston. While this sideboard is not a Seymour piece, because of structural differences in internal construction, it is certainly of the school and its maker was obviously a contemporary of the Seymours. For a related Seymour sideboard see
below: item 42 in Robert Mussey's The Furniture Masterworks
of John and Thomas Seymour. This sideboard
is in a fine state of preservation, with the lion
face brasses being historically correct period replacements
cast in England.
