A Mahogany Chippendale Chest on Chest with Original Pierced Brasses,England, c.1780

This chest-on-chest is composed of beautiful mahogany. Whereas, on many of these chests, the drawerfronts are veneered, here, these are all of the solid, as are the sides, etc. The chest has stop-fluting which flank the drawers on the upper case, giving a tapered finished look. It also has a strong cornice molding that caps the piece. The feet are a curved cabriole bracket form and are original in every respect, as are its original and desirable open-pierced brasses. This is a very clean piece in that all the glue blocks and components are as originally crafted, which is rare to find, as, over time, these large pieces tend to be abused and damaged. Also noted is the quality of the cabinetry, and here it is of top city rank (see dovetail details). We have French polished the mahogany, bringing out the beauty of the wood.
