A Tiger Maple Chest on Frame with Fan Carving, RI, c.1780

Scroll down for 2 more photos

This is a typical Rhode Island chest on frame, distinguished by a beautiful fan on the top drawer, which, although it looks like three separate drawers, is actually one entire drawer. The tiger maple is all of the solid, and the entire piece retains an old crusty surface. The legs are standard Queen Anne and the frame a beautifully scrolled Rhode Island form. The acorn finials are probably not original, as most are replaced, but appear to be old replacements, as are the Chippendale brasses.
