A Carved Mahogany Chippendale style Armchair after Grinling Gibbons (1720-1740), England, 19th century

This armchair relates to a settee which is currently on exhibit at the RISD museum, in Pendleton House and is illustrated both in their catalog and also in Wallace Nutting's Furniture Treasury , which refers to this as "The Best Settee in America". Our collection has a mate to this settee, and while this armchair is somewhat different, than the settee, it is still nevertheless of the same design.
