These chairs were part of a suite of furniture made for the Fred F. French building (built in 1927 at 551 5th Ave. New York, NY). These chairs are fairly good sized and quite comfortable. The inlay work is superb and the carved knees et al show the additional quality that went into the chairs, which are quite sturdy given the undercarriage bracing design.
