A Mahogany Tall Case Clock by Walter Durfee, Providence, RI, c.1900

This clock is a rather short tall case clock and is stylized on English models with the bonnet of the upper case being closely circumscribed along the round brass bezel which is further echoed by the round dome-shaped glass of the side lights that look allow view of the movement. This is an eight day clock with a beautiful movement of which the plates of the movement are machine-tooled and stamped, "Walter H. Durfee", as is the dial.

Note the beautifully figured mahogany in the upper and lower case and the brass stop fluted quarter columns on both the upper and lower case. It retains its original eagle finial. This clock came from the Lippitt family estate (per this letter inside door). The Lippitts were one of the first families of Rhode Island, ancestors having been Senators and governors, leaving no heirs, their estates were left to Brown University and the contents sold, wherein this clock comes. This clock is in pristine condition.
