A Sheraton Mahogany Reeded Leg Plant Stand, New England, c.1830
Plant stands are rare, and this is the first we have ever had, it is quite unusual, in that, instead of a single column supporting the stand with three small legs, as is true in, say the construction of a tilt-top table, this one has three well-developed reeded columns, which continue on to legs leaving a small lower platform for a vase. The workmanship is superb, as the turnings are vigorous, and the reeding extremely well-defined with a well-executed bulbous shaping to each column. This table retains its original surface and is in a good state of preservation.
As a plant stand it is fairly good sized, and is quite heavy, considering the amount of solid dense mahogany used throughout.
Height: 30 1/4 in. Diameter: 15 1/4 in.
