An inlaid Mahogany and Cherry Classical Lyre Card Table, Philadelphia, c.1810

Scroll down for 5 more photos

This Lyre Table is a beautiful composition of woods and form. This lyre form is indicative of work created in Philadelphia in this period. For example, see this worktable in the Philadelphia museum. Also, the legs which have acanthus carving on the knees are reminiscient of the Haines-Connelly Philadelphia school. In this card table, the top is composed of a beautiful figured cherry wood that has turned a wonderful color over the years and is crossbanded with mahogany.
