An Inlaid Mahogany Hepplewhite, Federal, Pembroke Table, Providence, RI, Attributed to Thomas Howland, Jr, c.1795-1810

This is a magnificent Pembroke table with all the bells and whistles; a virtual duplicate of this is illustrated in the Winterthur collection (see catalog item #325 in American Furniture, the Federal Period, 1788-1825, Charles F. Montgomery). The bellflowers extend all the way down the leg, which is quite rare, and fully embellished with oval pateras and satinwood edge banding. Most American card tables do not have casters; some did.
