A Newport Chippendale Mahogany Tilt-top Table w/ Small Claw and Ball Feet and Spiral Carved Column c.1780

This is a very beautiful table in many respects.  The top of the table itself is a beautiful slab of dense, heavy Cuban mahogany.  The cleats which hold the top are shaped as many of the Newport pieces were and somewhat identifies its origin.  Typical of Newport work, there is no birdcage and the block shows clearly its imprint on the bottom of the tabletop.  The urn and shaft are beautifully modeled and the legs are beautifully molded, terminating in a slender claw and ball foot.  (Normally this leg would have terminated in a simple pad foot.)

Height: 28 in.
Diameter: 32 1/4 in. - 32 3/4 in.
