This fine table relates to a grouping of grand classical furniture made in New York.  For related examples, see (1) Tracy, Berry: The Decorative Arts: Furniture, pp. 37 and 42. and (2) Christie’s, Inc., Americana, June, 1997, lot 426.

I have communicated about this piece with Peter Kenny, of the Metropolitan museum, (Curator of American 19th century furniture) and construction details point to the Phyfe workshop. Generally, later examples are of rosewood, however, this table uses beautifully figured mahogany, and the brass inlay is in original undisturbed condition.
This came from a New York State picker, about 1990-1991.
