An Inlaid Mahogany Hepplewhite Sideboard, probably Baltimore, c.1790

This large-scale sideboard is a tour de force composed of magnificent inlays throughout, contrasting satinwood against highly figured mahogany. Not only are the legs inlaid above the casepiece and below, but additionally, with oval pateras flanking the drawers. When these inlays are juxtaposed against the satinwood inlays around each of the drawers, a fabulous statement is made.
