A Large Tiger Maple Tilt-top Table with Birdcage, probably Connecticut, c.1790

Scroll down for 5 more photos

This tilt-top table is figured with dramatic tiger maple throughout. In nature, tiger striping only occurs within certain sections of a board. I this example, only the strongest maple was chosen and selected for the top, which is comprised of several boards in order to achieve the striking bar line approach. This table is truly a tour de force of tiger maple as the legs are selected additional or strong figured maple.
