This candlestand exhibits a vigorously turned column supported on four cabriole legs with carved acanthus molding and strong paw feet. It is of heavy, dense mahogany and is robust in its appearance. The acanthus on the top of each leg is well-defined and typical of these type, produced during the end of the first quarter of the 19th century. This table is somewhat larger than another in our collection of this grouping of Empire tilt-top tables and is truly a tour de force. The top is a single board with beautiful figure. There are no breaks, repairs, or alterations whatsoever.
